A Week at the Boat Show

Over 150,000 attendees are expected to flow into Reliant Center this week. The ten day long boat show promises five football fields of marine equipment. I arrived on Saturday to work the Laguna Rods booth and couldn’t believe the attendance of boaters, anglers, and soon-to-be’s. It was great talking with all who read my fishing reports and articles. The Brown Lures booth offered an excellent selection of their hot new lures.

The exciting fishing that occurred this week probably gave the boat show a little less attendance than expected. Friday, Captain Jesse jumped aboard my Chiquita and we left the harbor with high winds at our back along with anglers coming back in announcing there was no clear water in the bay. Needless to say, our first stop provided a three deep wade with our feet in clear sight. Throwing prototype Corky’s, we released big fish! A three, four, and six pound trout were released from a shell and mud cove using Paul Brown’s lures expected to be released around spring. Not to mention, a red over ten pounds fell prey to the junior sized Corky. Sunday, was a little of the same. A long all-day grind, provided limits of trout released up to 24 ¾ inches. The big trout didn’t bite like last week, but numbers were definitely on the upside.

Captain Ken Marshall continues to drift on the West side of the bay drifting scattered shell and mud using clear glitter Gambler soft plastics.
“Continue to look for birds, small groups of birds are often hovering over schools of fish on the West side of the bay even if they aren’t feeding at the moment,” says Marshall.

I'll be navigating between the Laguna Rods and Full Stringer Lodge booths; come by and say hello. I’ll be arriving from Port Mansfield and will be at the Laguna Booth starting Friday, hope to see you there!
‘Til Next Week,
